PRIORITY - The Turbo Oil Supply Lines Need To Be Inspected
MODELS INVOLVED - C15 Engines
Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The turbo oil supply lines need to be inspected on certain C15 On-Highway Truck Engines. The turbo oil supply lines on certain C15 Engines may leak. The turbo supply lines need to be inspected and, if needed, repairs made on the products listed below. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated August 10, 2004 when scheduling this service.
We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, but urge you to have this service performed as soon as possible to prevent unscheduled downtime.

Rework Procedure
- Verify that the most current software is installed. If it is not, flash engine with the latest software.
- Run at 1600 RPM for 5 minutes.
- Shut-off the engine and allow it to cool.
- Perform a visual inspection of the turbo oil supply hose on the high-pressure turbo. Pay particular attention to the three areas on each hose identified in Illustration 1.
- If no oil leak is visible, continue with procedure.
- If oil leak is visible, replace the hose and elbow fitting and return to step 1. Use table 1 to determine which hose to order.
- Unbolt turbo oil supply flange from the turbo.
- Pull on turbo oil supply line with 20 to 50 pounds to ensure proper connection at lower fitting.
- If hose is not connected, push hose until connection is achieved and repeat pull test.
- If hose is connected, continue with inspection procedure.
- Re-install the flange to turbo using a new 1978418 Gasket.
- Repeat inspection procedure for other turbo oil supply hose.
- Run engine at 1600 RPM for 5 minutes.
- Shut-off engine and allow engine to cool.
- Perform visual inspection of both turbo oil supply hoses.
- When the procedure is complete, stamp the letters "TS" to the right of the engine serial number plate on the cylinder block to signify that this rework has been completed.
