PROBLEM
The connecting rod bolts need to be replaced on certain 3606, 3608, G3608, 3612, G3612, 3616 and G3616 Engines. The 1W0098 Connecting Rod Bolt may have a defect in the shank. The defect can only be found using magnetic particle inspection. The defect started in the knurling area and travels up the shank into the head approximately 3 mm deep.AFFECTED PRODUCT

The connecting rod bolts need to be replaced on certain 3606, 3608, G3608, 3612, G3612, 3616 and G3616 Engines. The 1W0098 Connecting Rod Bolt may have a defect in the shank. New bolts need to be installed on the products listed below. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated April 29, 2004 when scheduling this service.
