The impeller shaft joint needs to be reworked on certain 0R9670, 0R9671, 0R9672, and 0R9673 Remanufactured Water Pumps in dealer Parts Stock. The retaining nut on these water pumps may not have been tightened to the correct torque during the remanufacturing process. Additionally, the impeller/shaft joint may have been contaminated with lub during assembly.
Action Required
Inspect all 0R9670, 0R9671, 0R9672, and 0R9673 Remanufactured Water Pumps in dealer Parts Stock for date codes prior to September 1, 1999.
NOTE: The date code can be located below the part name and above the part number on the part number tag attached to the box. The date code is formatted as DDMMYYxxx
(Example: A box marked with a date code of 150195068 would indicate a part manufactured on January 15, 1995 at plant number 068)
If the date code is prior to September 1, 1999 the water pumps need to be reworked to replace the impeller retaining nut. See the attached procedure.
If the date code is September 1, 1999 or later no action is required.

Dealers will need to order parts for this Program.

Service Claim Allowances
Submit one claim for all 0R9670, 0R9671, 0R9672, and 0R9673 Remanufactured Water Pumps in dealer Parts Stock that are reworked. A maximum of 1 hour of labor and one 1 - 6V8287 Nut will be allowed for each water pump that is reworked.
Parts Disposition
Handle the parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts handling.

Rework Procedure
1. Remove the impeller retaining nut.
2. Use the tooling in the chart that follows and remove the impeller from the shaft. Refer to the applicable Dissassemble and Assemble Manual as required.
NOTE: DO NOT STRIKE THE SHAFT. DAMAGE TO THE SEAL CAN RESULT.
3. Clean the pump shaft and impeller bore (mating surface areas) using mineral spirits or component cleaner.

- 138-8440 Component Cleaner
- 4C6796 Mineral Spirits - 5 gallon containers
4. Wipe the cleaner residue off the pump shaft and impeller bore.
5. Reinstall the impeller.
6. Install a new 6V8287 Impeller Retaining Nut.
7. Tighten the new nut to a torque of 200 ± 25 N·m (150 ±18 Lb Ft).
NOTE: DO NOT USE AN IMPACT WRENCH TO TIGHTEN THE NUT.
