Usage:
NOTE: This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When reporting the repair, use "PI1297" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI1297" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
Problem
The monitoring system software on certain 3508B, 3512B, and 3516B Marine Engines built since 1st production can be programmed using the Electronic Technician Service Tool to make engine shutdown "active" or "inactive" for parameters such as oil pressure, high coolant temperature, crankcase pressure, and aftercooler temperature. Engines ship from the factory with these shutdown parameters "active" and if not reprogrammed will automatically shutdown the engine if the trip point setting is exceeded. If the engine has shutdown for one of these parameters, it can only be started if the shutdown parameter is reprogrammed to "inactive" or the shutdown condition no longer exists (example: temperature lowers below the shutdown trip point).

Rework Procedure
Connect the Electronic Technician ServiceTool to the engine and access the configuration and monitoring screens from the Service Menu. Record the settings for all ocnfiguration and monitoring parameters. These settings will need to be reset and confirmed after the new personality module is installled, because some may default to factory settings. (example: crank duration and number of crank cycles may default to "0").
Remove the access cover from the ECM (primary ECM for engines with dual ECM's). Remove the personality module from the ECM and install the new personality module (see illustration 1 for access cover location).
Use the ET Service Tool to confirm and program all configuration and monitoring parameters.
NOTE: The shutdown option for oil pressure, high coolant temperature, crankcase pressure, and aftercooler temperature will now be UNAVAILABLE. Overspeed is the only parameter that will have shutdown available.
Engines in service prior to issuance of this program can claim the labor and travel associated to program monitoring parameters "inactive" according to the e-mail instructions dated (02/16/96 e-mail Jim Reynolds, REYNOJE).

Preproduction Engines
Turn OFF the shutdown option for oil pressure and high coolant temperature using the following instructions:
1. Connect the ECAP Service Tool (not ET) to the engine.
2. Select the "READ/CHANGE PARAMETER" screen.
3. Select "ENG MON SHUTDOWN" parameter.
4. Turn the parameter OFF if it is currently ON. (ECAP Screen will display "ON/OFF". A password will be required.
NOTE: The preproduction engine software will be updated as part of the pilot/preproduction engine update program.
