Nylon Seals Used On Lockwire To Seal Critical Areas; Parts Service Seals Available For NACD Dealers

Usage:

All Engines In All Applications

Description of Change: A nylon seal is now used in place of the former aluminum seal to seal all critical components, such as governors, fuel systems, timing access bolts, etc. The 8S7115 Lockwire is still used. The nylon seal is self-locking and secures the ends of the lockwire. See illustration. The wire in the aluminum seal could be pulled out of the aluminum and reinserted in the seal if the seal was not tightly crimped.

New, nylon self-locking seal for critical areas. No dealer or customer's code is on seals installed at the factory.

This nylon seal is installed by Caterpillar at all factories. It is yellow and has CAT imprinted on the seal. See first chart.

Adaptable To: NACD Dealers Only. The new seal(s) and the 8S7115 Lockwire can be used as direct replacements for the former seal and lockwire. No sealing tool is required. Simply put both ends of the 8S7115 Lockwire in both grooves around the arrow-shaped lock, and push the lock firmly inside the seal cavity. See illustration.

Part numbers of the former seals and sealing tools are listed in the chart.

Types Of Seals Available And How To Obtain The Seals - NACD Dealers Only

New nylon seal(s) for field replacements are presently available only to NACD (North American Commercial Division) dealers. The same seal, but a green color with a tab, will later be available directly from Caterpillar to all other dealers, and will be announced in this publication at that time.

The seals are now available in three colors to all NACD dealers.

Each seal, before shipment, is imprinted with an identifying code number by Stoffel Seals Corp. The colors and use of each color are as follows.

Seals MUST be ordered DIRECTLY from Stoffel Seals Corp. by all NACD Caterpillar dealers. Orders from ONLY NACD Caterpillar dealers will be accepted. TEPS dealers and customers are asked to order through their administering Caterpillar dealer.

NOTE: Dealers and customers should now order the minimum quantity of seals because stocks of the former seals will be scrapped by Caterpillar. Do NOT order more than your immediate needs because this will delay shipments to other dealers.

To expedite your orders, please do the following:

... The order must be on a NACD Caterpillar dealer letterhead (not TEPS) listing name, address, color and code for each entry. Each code will be checked against a master code and address list.
... Each company named in the order must be identified by category, i.e., Caterpillar dealer, TEPS dealer, or customer.
... Specify a CFS-1, Type IV Seal for all orders. If this complete description is not listed, the wrong seal type may be supplied.
... The minimum order quantity for each code number is 1,000 seals. Current cost is $58.01/thousand + $10.00 surcharge, FOB supplier plant. Price is U.S. $ and subject to change without notice.
... Send all orders directly to:
