Personality Module Software Updated; Do Not Troubleshoot Diagnostic Code 55 (No Detected Faults)

Usage:

3406B (8TC, 5YG) (PEEC) Truck Engines

Reference: Truck Engine News; August 1990; Page 1; "Effective Dates, Serial Numbers And Features Of PEEC Personality Modules " for 3406B (PEEC) Truck Engines.

In May 1990, the software for the 3406B PEEC Truck Engine Personality Module was updated. This involved a change in the application of Diagnostic Codes 34 (loss of engine rpm signal), and 55 (no detected faults). With the new software installed, the ignition key "ON", and the engine NOT running, Diagnostic Code 34 will be present on the Electronic Controller Analyzer Programmer (ECAP) or Digital Diagnostic Tool (DDT) screen. However, Diagnostic Code 55 will appear on the Diagnostic Lamp, indicating that there are no ACTIVE Diagnostic Codes in the PEEC system. It should be noted that Diagnostic Code 55 does NOT indicate a PEEC fault, but only that the system is operating correctly. Prior to the updated software, Diagnostic Code 34 was displayed on the Diagnostic Lamp under the same conditions as described above.

The updated software was effective with 3406B (5YG392, 8TC13244) PEEC Truck Engines, and is adaptable to first production.
