Owners Of Digital Diagnostic Tools (DDT) And Electronic Control Analyzer Programmers (ECAP) Must Register Their Service Tools To Automatically Receive The Mailing Of The May 1989 Service Program Module (SPM) Update

Usage:

3176 And 3406B (PEEC) Truck Engines

Several changes have been made to the fuel systems on 3176 and 3406B (PEEC) Truck Engines. Some of these changes require that electronic service tools be updated with new SPM's. The SPM is software in an Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EPROM) chip. The SPM is installed in the DDT and/or ECAP by the tool owner to provide all the service functions for the engine. Effective May 1, 1989, all ECAP's and DDT's that are not equipped with an updated SPM will not be able to support new Personality Module releases on 3406B (PEEC) and 3176 Truck Engines.

To support 3176 Truck Engines, the ECAP requires the 7X2000 SPM, Version 1.1, and the DDT requires the 9X4210 SPM, Version 1.1.

To support 3406B (PEEC) Truck Engines, the ECAP requires the 8C5919 SPM, Version 1.4, and the DDT requires the 7X1830 SPM, Version 2.1.

In the future, an automatic mailing will distribute updated SPM's to all registered ECAP and DDT owners. It is important that these service tools be registered. Those who have not previously registered their ECAP and DDT, should contact the their local Caterpillar Dealers' Service Department to register.
