Usage:
3406B (PEEC) Truck Engines
The correct timing specification for 3406B Programmable Electronic Engine Control (PEEC) Truck Engines can be obtained from the PEEC control itself by using an 8T8697 Electronic Control Analyzer Programmer (ECAP) equipped with the correct PEEC Service Program Module. The PEEC controls the timing based on load as well as engine rpm. Therefore, timing specifications based only on engine rpm, such as those typically published in the 0T Microfiche, can be misleading. The specifications displayed by the ECAP on status display screen number 3 are correct for the current load and engine rpm, and should be used in checking injection timing. The "EST. DYN. TIMING" value displayed on this screen can be compared to the value measured using the 6V3100/8T5300 Timing Indicator to check for correct timing. If these values agree to within 2.5 degrees, the timing is correct. The 3406B (PEEC) Truck Engine Test Procedures, Form SENR3479-01, Procedure P-401, contains more complete information about checking injection timing.
