Check All Settings When Fuel Injection Pump Group Is Installed

Usage:

All 3208 Truck Engines

Any time a remanufactured (rebuilt to new condition) or new fuel injection pump group is installed in 3208 Truck Engines, the high idle, the low idle and the fuel settings must be checked to find if they are adjusted correctly. When this is done, the factory seal is to be removed and the dealer's seal installed.

This procedure is important because it is possible for the fuel injection pump group to be adjusted to a setting for an engine other than the one on which it is to be installed. Wrong adjustment settings can have an effect on engine performance and emissions and can cause engine damage.

Special Instruction, Form No. SMHS7676-01 has installation instructions and is sent with the fuel injection pump group.

Add the "Caution" which follows after the first paragraph on page 2 of Special Instruction, Form No. SMHS7676-01.

"CAUTION: When a new or remanufactured (rebuilt to new condition) fuel injection pump group is installed, the high idle, the low idle and the fuel settings must be checked. If necessary, they must be adjusted according to the fuel setting charts for the specific engine Serial Number and arrangement. This work must be done by a serviceman who has had the necessary training for fuel system maintenance.

When the fuel system is checked and/or adjusted, the factory seal must be removed and a dealer seal installed. "
