Be Sure To Correctly Tighten Turbocharger Clamp Assemblies{1052}

Usage:

All Caterpillar Engines Equipped With A Turbocharger

Be sure to correctly tighten the clamp assemblies that fasten the compressor housing and turbine housing to the cartridge. If a clamp assembly becomes loose, a housing may contact the compressor wheel or turbine wheel. This could result in damage to the turbocharger components. Use the procedure that follows to install the clamp assemblies. Make a note of this procedure in the appropriate Service Manual Disassembly and Assembly modules.

1. Be sure the clamp assemblies are correctly located on the housings and the cartridge. Be sure the housings are correctly oriented on the cartridge. Then tighten each clamp assembly nut or bolt to the specified torque.

2. Lightly tap all around the outside of each clamp assembly with a soft hammer to be sure it is seated.

3. Again, tighten each clamp assembly nut or bolt to the specified torque.

4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until each clamp assembly nut or bolt does not turn when the specified torque is applied.
