Thicker Brake Band Used In Steering Brake Group To Prevent Brake Squeal (Noise){4110}

Usage:

D3 Tractors;
931 Loaders

Description of Change: A new lining and band assembly is used in the steering brake group on the above models. The brake band in the new assembly is 50% thicker than the former band. This will prevent brake squeal (noise) caused by high frequency vibration in the band during brake application. With the thicker band, longer rivets are used to hold the brake lining.

The longer rivets are also added to the parts service brake lining group, so the group can be installed in machines that have either the new or former brake bands.

Adaptable As: Direct replacement. The new 5G1073 Lining and Band Assembly can be installed in place of the former 6S8757 Lining and Band Assembly, which is canceled. Two are used per machine.

The part number of the 6S8896 Brake Lining Group (parts service) is not changed, but forty 7B5060 Rivets are added to the group. With the addition of these rivets, any existing 6S8896 Brake Lining Group can be installed on the new brake bands.

The new lining and band assemblies are in effect at the factory on machines with the serial numbers that follow:
