Oil Passage Plugs Are No Longer Installed In Crankshafts For Parts Service{1202}

Usage:

All 3408 And 3412 Engines

A change has been made to the crankshaft assemblies used in the above engines. During assembly of the crankshaft for parts service, the 9F2247 Pipe Plugs will no longer be installed in the oil passages. The plugs will be put in a plastic bag (package), and shipped with the crankshaft. This will make it easier to inspect and, if necessary, clean the oil passages before the crankshaft is installed in the engine. It is very important that the oil passages be carefully inspected and thoroughly cleaned before crankshaft installation to prevent possible engine bearing damage.

NOTE: This change makes it necessary for the serviceman to install the 9F2247 Pipe Plug in the crankshaft.

Information concerning procedures for installation of these oil passage plugs is given in Special Instruction, Form SMHS7936-01 which will be shipped with each crankshaft. Additional information is available in Form SEBD0531, "Engine Bearings And Crankshafts."

The first crankshafts to be released for parts service shipment without the pipe plugs installed are the 7N3407 and 4N7755 Crankshaft Assemblies.
