Important: Use Only 12 Volts Direct Current To Boost Start 3208 Truck Engines Equipped With Exhaust Gas Recirculation Systems{1401,1453,1080}

Usage:

3208 Truck Engines, Direct Injection And Naturally-Aspirated, Which Are Equipped With Exhaust Gas Recirculation Systems

Use only a 12 volt, direct current power source when boost starting a 3208 Truck Engine equipped with an exhaust gas recirculation system.

------ WARNING! ------

The use of more than 12 volts direct current to boost start these engines can cause the battery to explode and/or damage the other electrical components.

-------WARNING!-------

The 3208 Truck Engines use a 12 volt, direct current electrical system.

The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system which is used on both the direct injection and naturally-aspirated 3208 Truck Engines, uses an electrical circuit that will operate on a maximum of 15 volts direct current. More than 15 volts direct current will damage the EGR electrical circuit.

When boost starting the 3208 Truck Engine, remember ...

... Always wear eye protection.

... Do not smoke or use any equipment which gives off sparks or heat in the area around the batteries. Hydrogen is given off during the operation of batteries. Hydrogen, mixed with air, can explode.

... Remove all the battery filler caps before the boost cables are connected.

... Never let the ends of the two boost cables make contact with each other.

... Connect the positive (+) boost cable to the positive (+) terminal on the boost power source and then the negative (-) cable to the negative (-) terminal on the boost power source.

... Connect the cable from the positive (+) terminal on the boost power source to the positive (+) terminal on the battery in the truck.

... Connect the cable from the negative (-) terminal of the boost power source to the ground terminal on the starter. If this is not possible, connect the cable to a good ground on the engine block or frame, away from and/or below the battery.

... Boost start the engine as per the Operation Guide.

After the engine starts, disconnect the negative (-) cable from the ground, and then, disconnect the positive (+) terminal on the battery. Next, disconnect the cable from the negative (-) terminal on the boost power source, and then, disconnect the cable from positive (+) terminal on the boost power source.
