Usage:

Removal Procedure

Start By:

a. Install the steering frame lock pin. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock Pin - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.

b. Install the bucket control group safety pins. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bucket Control Group Safety Pins - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.

c. Release the pressure from the hydraulic system. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release" for the machine that is being serviced.

d. Rmeove the front drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, Power Train, "Drive Shaft (Front) - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.

e. Remove the ride control diverter valve (if equipped). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Diverter Valve (Ride Control) - Remove" for the machine that is being serviced.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

NOTE: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses and all tubes. This will help prevent fluid loss and this will help to prevent contaminants from entering the system.

NOTE: Some machines may be equipped with an optional Ride Control System and/or Autodig System. This procedure includes removal of components from the main control valve for these systems.

1. Disconnect hose assemblies (2), (3), (4) and (5) from main control valve (1).

2. Disconnect hose assembly (6) from the float sequence valve.

3. Disconnect hose assembly (7) from the main control valve.

4. Disconnect hose assembly (8).

5. Disconnect hose assembly (9).

6. Disconnect hose assembly (10) from manifold (11). Retain two bolts to support manifold (11).

7. Remove the two bolts and the washers that hold clamp (12) to the front frame. Remove clamp (12) from the front frame.

8. Disconnect hose assembly (10) from hydraulic tank (13). Move hose assembly (10) out of the front frame away from the main control valve.

9. Disconnect hose assemblies (14), (15) and (16) from the main control valve.

10. Disconnect hose assemblies (17), (18), (19), (20), (21) and (22) from the main control valve.

11. Support manifold (23) and disconnect hose assembly (26). Remove the manifold from the main control valve.

12. Support manifold (24) and disconnect hose assembly (25). Remove the manifold from the main control valve.

13. Disconnect hose assembly (27) from manifold assembly (11). Remove the two bolts supporting manifold assembly (11). Remove the manifold assembly.

14. Disconnect hose assembly (28) from the main control valve.

15. Remove the three bolts and the washers that hold cover (29) to the front frame. Remove cover (29).

16. Disconnect hose assembly (30) from the main control valve.

17. Remove the two bolts and the washers that hold cover (31) to the front frame. Remove the cover.

18. Pass two suitable lifting slings through the front frame to each end of the main control valve, as shown. Attach the lifting slings to a hoist.

19. Install Tooling (A) on each end of the main control valve, as shown. Attach Tooling (A) to each sling with a suitable 'D' shackle.

20. Remove three bolts (32) and the washers that hold the main control valve to the front frame.

21. Lower main control valve (1) to the ground. The weight of the main control valve is 62 kg (136 lb).

22. Remove the four bolts and the washers that hold manifold (33) to the main control valve. Remove the manifold. Remove the O-ring seal from manifold (33).

23. Repeat Step 22 for manifold (34).
