Camshaft

Usage:

Remove Camshaft

Start By:

a. remove engine front support and timing gear cover

b. remove valve lifters and push rods

1. Use tool (A) to turn the engine crankshaft until bolts (1) behind the camshaft drive gear can be removed.

2. Remove bolts (1) and the plate that holds the camshaft in position.

3. Remove the camshaft from the cylinder block. The weight of the camshaft is 27 kg (60 lb).

4. If necessary, use tool group (B) and a press to remove gear (2) from the camshaft. Remove the key from the camshaft.

Install Camshaft

1. Heat gear (2) to a maximum temperature of 316°C (600°F). Install the key in the camshaft. Make sure the timing mark on gear (2) is toward the outside and then install gear (2) on camshaft (1).

2. Put 2P2506 Anti-Seize Compound on the camshaft lobes and valve lifter rollers. Put clean engine oil on the bearing journals of the camshaft.

3. Put camshaft (1) in position on the cylinder block. Use tool (A) to turn the crankshaft until an alignment of the timing mark on gear (2) and idler gear (4) can be made. Push the camshaft all the way into the engine block. Make sure the timing marks are in alignment.

4. Use tool (A) to turn the crankshaft until the bolts that hold plate (3) can be installed through the holes in gear (2).

5. Install plate (3) and the bolts to hold the camshaft in position.
