Gas Engine Driven Chiller Control Panel (ECP)

The Gas Engine Driven Chiller Control Panel (ECP) is designed for local operation and protection of the Caterpillar Gas Engine and Chiller System Driveline. The Chiller System is currently used with G3406, G3408, G3412, G3508, G3512, and G3516 Engines.

The major components of this panel are the Engine Status Control Module (ESCM), Alarm and Shutdown Annunciator Modules, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), Engine Control Switches and the Woodward Electronic Governor.

The main purpose of the ECP is to integrate the York MicroPanel controls with the Caterpillar Gas Engine (primarily the Status Control Module). The ECP is not intended to be the primary controller for the chiller system. The York MicroPanel acts as the system controller, providing signals for engine start/stop, clutch engage/disengage initiation, and speed control signal while operating the Chiller system. A 2301A governor controls the speed of the engine.

In addition to integrating the York Controls with the Caterpillar Engine Controls, the ECP serves as the primary protection system for the engine, clutch, and gearbox. The engine protection and annunciation are provided by the standard Caterpillar Status Control Module for Electronic Ignition System Engines (EIS). This module provides Overspeed, Overcrank, Low Lube Oil Pressure, High Jacket Water Temperature, Emergency Stop, and Auxiliary (PLC initiated) shutdown protection for the engine with LED indication of shutdown conditions. In addition, this module displays Engine Hours, Engine Speed, Engine Jacket Water Temperature, Engine Oil Pressure, and Battery Voltage on an LCD digital display.

The driveline clutch and gearbox control/protection/annuciation are also provided by the ECP. The ECP provides gearbox, clutch, and additional driveline related control and protection with the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). Driveline sensors provide analog and digital signals to the PLC for driveline protection. Driveline related alarms and shutdowns are provided by CAT alarm and shutdown modules with LED annunciation.
