Fuel Filter & Base

Usage:

Remove & Install Fuel Filter & Base

FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENT

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Product Guide", NENG2500, for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Disconnect fuel lines (1) and (2). Put caps in the lines and fittings to keep dirt out of the fuel system.

2. Remove fuel filter (3) from the fuel filter base with Tool (A).

3. Remove two nuts (4) and fuel filter base (5) from the aftercooler housing.

NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the fuel filter and base.

4. Put fuel filter base (5) in position on the studs in the aftercooler housing. Install the two nuts that hold it to the aftercooler housing.

5. Install fuel filter (3) on the fuel filter base. Follow the instructions on the filter for the correct installation procedure.

6. Connect fuel lines (1) and (2) to the fuel filter base.

7. Remove the air from the fuel system. See the topic "Priming The Fuel System", in the Operation & Maintenance Manual.
