Introduction
This Special Instruction provides the guidelines to replace hydraulic cylinder wiper seals with the improved straight-faced wiper seal.
Do not perform any procedure that is outlined in this publicaiton or do not order parts until you understand the informaiton that is contained in this document.
Installation Instruction
1. Use sandpaper or emery cloth to "roughen" the surfaces of counter bore in the cylinder head and outside diameter of the wiper seal's metal shell.
2. Clean the counter bore in the head and the outside diameter of the wiper with 8T-9011 cleaner or 6V-1541 Quick Cure Primer until neither discolors a clean white towel.
NOTE: The metal shell of the wiper seal is coated with a corrosion inhibitor which may prevent proper bonding of the seal to the cylinder head if it is not removed. After cleaning, do not touch the counterbore or the metal shell because oil from your fingers may prevent a good bond. Handle the seal by the lips only.
3. Apply 6V-1541 Quick Cure Primer on the counter bore and the metal shell of the wiper and alllow it to dry. It will dry in approximately 30 seconds.
4. Apply 7M-7456 Bearing Mount evenly but not excessively to both the counter bore and the metal shell of the wiper. Do NOT allow bearing mount to drip onto the sealing lip.
5. Press the wiper into the head with the markings " THIS SIDE OUT" facing the rod end, as shown in detail B in the illustration. The seal should be seated firmly against the bottom of the counter bore. Wipe away any excess bearing mount. Allow bearing mount to dry for 15 minutes before assembling the cylinder.
6. Lightly lubricate the wiper seal with clean hydraulic fluid before installing the head on the cylinder rod.
