Usage:

Earlier and later engines:

Before installing gear, get temperature of gear to a maximum of 400° F (204° C).

(1) End play for the crankshaft ... .011 to .018 in.(0.28 to 0.46 mm)

Maximum permissible end play for the crankshaft ... .035 in.(0.89 mm)

(2) Diameter of bearing surface (journal) for the connecting rod ... 2.999 to 3.000 in.(76.17 to 76.20 mm)

Minimum permissible bearing surface diameter (journal) (worn) ... 2.992 in.(75.99 mm)

Maximum permissible difference from round bearing surface (journal) ... .004 in.(0.10 mm)

(3) Seals:

Earlier engines:

Width of ring groove in thrower ... .1890 ± .0005 in.(4.80 ± 0.013 mm)

Clearance between ring seal and groove ... .0020 to .0040 in.(0.050 to 0.102 mm)

Ring seal groove "run out" (axial eccentricity) of ring groove face of thrower ... .006 in.(0.15 mm)

Clearance between ends of ring seal .025 in. (0.64 mm) should be in top position and engine block in operating position.

Later Engines:

Install lip of seal toward crankcase.

Before installing front or rear sleeve, get temperature of sleeve to a maximum of 600° F (315° C).

(4) Diameter of main bearing surface (journal) ... 3.499 to 3.500 in.(88.87 to 88.90)

Clearance between main bearing and bearing surface (journal) ... .003 to .006 in.(0.07 ± 0.14 mm)

Maximum permissible clearance between bearing and crankshaft ... .010 in.(0.254 mm)

(5) Depth to drive front sleeve on crankshaft (Earlier engines) ... 2.096 in.(53.24 mm)
