Air Starting Motor

Usage:

Remove Air Starting Motor

1. Close the outlet valve on the air tank and remove air line between the air tank and the pressure regulating valve (5).

2. Remove exhaust elbow (2) and silencer (1).

3. Remove inlet elbow bolts (3) and U-bolt (7).

4. Remove pressure regulating valve (5), balanced whistle valve (4), oiler (6) and inlet elbow as a unit.

5. Install a 1/2"-13 NC forged eyebolt and install hoist.

6. Remove air starting motor. Weight is 82 lbs. (37,2 kg).

Install Air Starting Motor

1. Install air starting motor.

2. Install pressure regulating valve (5), balanced whistle valve (4), oiler (6) and inlet elbow as a unit.

3. Install exhaust elbow (2) and silencer (1).

4. Install air line between the pressure regulating valve and the air tank.

5. Open the outlet valve on the air tank.

Disassemble Air Starting Motor

start by:

a) remove air starting motor

1. Put marks on parts to make alignment during assembly easier.

2. Remove bolts (2) and remove drive housing (1).

3. Remove ring (4) and screw (6).

4. Remove drive (5).

5. Remove socket head screws (7) and remove cover (8).

6. Bend lockwasher (13) and remove nut (14) using tool (C).

7. Remove gear (12).

8. Remove retainer (11) and push shaft (9) out of bearing (10).

9. Push bearing (10) out of cover (8).

10. Remove bolts (17) and (18) and remove gear housing (19).

11. Remove cover (3).

12. Bend lockwasher and remove nut using tool (C).

13. Remove plate assembly (16) and bearing (15) using tool setup (A).

14. Remove air motor housing.

15. Remove vanes (22) from rotor (24).

16. Bend lockwasher (21) and remove nut (23) using tool (C).

17. Remove gear (26) using tool (B).

18. Remove ring (20) and bearing (25).

Assemble Air Starting Motor

See AIR STARTING MOTOR, TESTING AND ADJUSTING to make rotor clearance adjustment.

NOTE: Assemble parts with marks in alignment.

1. Install bearing (7) and ring (1).

2. Install gear (6), lockwasher (2) and nut (4).

3. Install vanes (3) into rotor (5).

4. Install air motor housing (9).

5. Install gear housing (8).

6. Install plate assembly (10) and bearing (11).

7. Install lockwasher and nut.

8. Install cover.

9. Install bearing (14) in cover (12).

10. Install shaft (13) and retainer (15).

11. Install gear (16), lockwasher (17) and nut (18).

12. Install cover (12) onto gear housing (8).

13. Install drive (19).

14. Install drive housing.
