Lower Shaft

Usage:

Removal

1. Remove the upper shaft and the planetary section.

2. Disconnect and remove the lubrication line fittings and plate from the front of the lower shaft.

3. Remove baffle (3), sun gear and shaft assembly (1) and gear retainer (4). Use two forcing screws in the astern driven gear (2) and remove it and the spacer ring.

4. Install a FT850 Locking Bracket between the bearing webs to provide support when pulling the shaft. Unscrew the bolts from the bracket to brace between the webs.

5. The shaft is removed from the housing by first using the 8B7548 Push Puller, 8B7550 Legs and then the 5F7369 Legs, 8B7557 Adapters and an engine cylinder liner puller assembly with 5F7362 Adapter Plate, 7F9540 Hydraulic Puller and 9S5800 Hydraulic Pump.

NOTE: Be sure the key, in the ahead driven gear and shaft, will slip when removing the shaft. When the short 8B7550 Legs are exchanged for the longer 5F7369 Legs, support the ahead driven gear.

Lower Shaft Installation

Place the lower shaft in position through the ahead driven gear, gear key in place, and use the plate and bolts in the front of the shaft to pull the shaft into the housing.

Install the astern driven gear and spacer ring (2), sun gear and shaft (1) and baffle (3). The planetary section and upper shaft are now installed.
