Upper Shaft And Clutch Removal

Usage:

1. Remove the control valve, oil manifold, oil cooler and oil pump.

NOTE: If the marine gear is attached to the engine, proceed with Step 2. If the marine gear is separated from the engine, rotate the clutch to locate the clutch lifting eye hole at the top. Block between the marine gear lower housing and the clutch drive teeth before removing the upper housing.

2. Loosen the bolts in the upper halves of the bearing rear retainers. Do not loosen the bolts in the front retainers.

3. Remove the bolts securing the two halves of the marine gear together and install a hoist to lift the upper housing. Remove the upper housing.

4. Remove the bearing cap saddles.

5. If the marine gear is attached to the engine, remove the bolts securing the clutch drive ring to the engine flywheel by rotating the flywheel to position the bolts upward for removal. When all drive ring bolts are removed, loosen the bolts in the bearing retainers in the lower housing.

6. Install a lifting eye into the clutch and secure the clutch to the ahead drive gear with two FT840 Brackets. The brackets prevent the driving portion of the clutch from separating from the drive shaft assemblies during storage or service work.

7. If the marine gear is attached to the engine, remove the bolts securing the clutch drive ring to the engine flywheel and slip the drive rings rearward onto the clutch.

8. Loosen the bolts in the bearing rear retainers (1) in the lower housing. Do not loosen the bolts in the front retainers (2).

9. Install a hoist to the clutch lifting eye and attach a strap to the ahead drive gear to allow the shaft to be horizontal as it is removed from the housing.
