Usage:
Introduction
The water temperature regulators are located in housings on the front of the exhaust manifolds water cooled shields.
Water temperature regulators restrict the flow of coolant until it reaches efficient operating temperature. The regulators maintain operating temperature by opening and allowing the coolant to flow through the radiator or heat exchanger. This dissipates excess engine heat. Maximum operating temperature will vary according to the air temperature and load factor. Operating temperature should never exceed the boiling temperature at the prevailing altitude.
Removal And Installation
1. Drain the cooling system until the coolant is below the level of the regulators.
PREPARING TO REMOVE REGULATOR HOUSING (D399 Illustrated)
1-Elbow. 2-Bolts. 3-Pipe. 4-Cover.
2. Inspect seal on left end of pipe (3) and replace it if necessary.
3. Remove water temperature regulators (5) from cover (4).
REMOVING REGULATOR HOUSING
3-Pipe. 4-Cover. 5-Regulator. 6-Orifice.
4. Clean the air bleed orifice (6) in the cover and manifold shield.
5. Use similar procedure to remove the water temperature regulators on the left side of the engine.
Testing Temperature Regulators
See the SPECIFICATIONS for the correct opening and full open temperatures of the regulator.
