This Program must be administered either before or after failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS43678" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

A new Product Identification Number (PIN) Plate and engine serial number plate need to be ordered by emailing the factory. PIN Plate and engine serial number plates can then be installed on certain 3516B, and 3516C Generator Sets. The engines were not equipped with the proper identification information from the factory.

Email 3500 Diesel Customer Service at sloandw@cat.com and include the following information for your engine(s)to receive the PIN plates and engine serial number plates:

Adhere the PIN Plate to the back of the generator(in the top left corner) as shown in Image1.2.1. with the self adhesive backing on the plate.

Stamp the PIN (Identical to the PIN on the PIN Plate) in the two following locations shown in Image1.2.2.

Remove the engine serial number plate on the engine cylinder block by removing the existing rivets. Replace the existing plate with the smaller of the two plates obtained through the service letter instructions. Prior to replacement of this plate, stamp X's over each of the characters of the old engine serial numbers. There will be two locations wher these serial numbers exist.

Then follow the stamping instructions below to stamp the new engine serial numbers. Image1.2.3 shows the location of the engine where the engine serial number plate should be located. Image1.2.4 shows the area where the engine serial numbers should be stamped. There is also a stamping beneath the engine serial number plate that needs to be remarked as well.

NOTE: There are 2 locations to stamp the engine serial number plate on the engine cylinder block.

Each character of the stamped numbers must meet the following conditions:

1. Positioned such that there is space for correction.

2. Stamped on a straight reference line.

3. 6mm in height (Minimum)

4. Minimum depth of 0.2mm

5. Readable after the machine is painted

6. Center-to-center spacing that will prevent additional figures from being inserted.

7. An asterisk having the same height, depth, and spacing as the characters, must be stamped at the beginning and the end of PIN.

When a character is incorrectly stamped, it shall be corrected by stamping the letter
"X" directly on the incorrect character, the letter "P" above the "X", and the
correct character below the "X". This method of correction applies to both the concealed PIN and the PIN stamped below the PIN plate.
