PROBLEM
The existing crankshaft, crankshaft dowels, damper adapter and damper on certain C175-16 Generator Sets and Locomotive Engines operating in either a prime or continuous application, need to be updated at major overhaul. This update increases the overall durability of the connecting rod bearing. If the existing components are not replaced, this could lead to an unexpected rod bearing failure. |

ACTION REQUIRED
Install the new crankshaft, damper adapter, and damper at major overhaul. Carefully press in the 423-0350 Dowel into the rear 254-2075 Crankshaft Gear prior to installation unto the crankshaft. Note: Ensure you are inserting the right end of the dowel, in order to achieve the press fit. Carefully press in the 423-0349 Dowel into the flywheel gear prior to installation unto the crankshaft. Refer to Image1 for the correct orientation. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR7466, for removal and installation instructions for Generator Sets. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, KENR8116, for removal and installation instructions for Locomotive Engines. Refer to Engine News, "New Basic Engine Components Are Used in C175-16 Engines" for more information on the new crankshaft design. NOTE: Ensure the correct connecting rod bearing that matches up to the new crankshaft that is used at overhaul. The rod bearings for the new crank are dual sourced and therefore have two part number options. Odd bank rod bearing part number options are 383-8347 or 376-6457 and even bank rod bearing part numbers are 383-8348 or 376-6458. |

SERVICE CLAIM ALLOWANCES
0-30 mo |
||||||
31-120 mo |
NOTE: This is a 0.0-hour job | ||||||
No additional hours allotted due to the fact that even if a customer or dealer did intended to reuse the crankshaft at overhaul, the crankshaft would still be removed in order to flush the block. The assumption is being made that new or remanufactured cylinder packs and new connecting rod bearings would be purchased by the customer as part of the standard overhaul parts list. This will ensure that the new part number connecting rods and rod bearings that are designed specifically for this crankshaft are also utilized. Please contact your district's product support representative with questions regarding this program. |
