PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR INSTALLING NEUTRAL EARTH CABLES ON CERTAIN 3516B GENERATOR SETS
This Program must be administered as soon as possible.
When reporting the repair, use "PI10837" as the Part Number and "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim
Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code.
|The neutral earth cables may not have been installed at the factory on certain 3516B generator sets.
Failure to fit these cables may, in conjunction with other factors or circumstances, result in a risk of personal injury or death.
|In order to allow equitable parts availability to all participating dealers, please limit your initial parts order to not exceed 45% of dealership population. This is an initial order recommendation only, and the ultimate responsibility for ordering the total number of parts needed to satisfy the program lies with the dealer.|
|Assemble and install the neutral earth cables.
Refer to the attached Rework Procedure.

Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The neutral earth cables need to be installed on the products listed below. The existing cables may not have been installed in the factory and may, in conjunction with other factors or circumstances, result in a risk of personal injury or death if not installed. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 22Dec2010 when scheduling this service.
We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, but urge you to have this service performed for your added safety and satisfaction.

|Follow all necessary safety precautions to shut down, and lock out/tag out, the Generator Set before performing this Rework Procedure.
1. Assemble two cable assemblies. Each cable assembly consists of 116cm length of 188-3111 Cable with one 5P-2600 Terminal Ring attached to each end of the cable. Image1.1.1.
|2. Route the two cables as shown in Image1.2.1 and Image1.2.2
3. Attach one end of each of the two neutral earth cables to one of the locations shown in Image1.2.1 and Image1.2.2, using one 8T-4183 Bolt, two 8T-4223 Washers, and one 8T-4224 Nut.
4. Attach the other ends of the cables to the other location shown in Image1.2.1 Image1.2.2 using one 8T-4183 Bolt, two 8T-4223 Washers, and one 8T-4224 Nut.
5. Tighten each mounting location to a torque of 100Nm +/- 20Nm.
|6. Secure the two cables together with the 7K-1181 Cable Straps to prevent movement between the cables.
7. Return the generator set to service.
