NOTE:

This Program must be administered either before or after failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS42228" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.

PROBLEM

The circuit board in the actuator was moved prior to the perscribed cooling time. This may allow the CAN chip connections in the circuit board to become loose and ultimatly fail. Once the CAN chip looses connection, the actuator will not be able to communicate with the ECM and result in an unscheduled engine shutdown.

ACTION REQUIRED

Inspect the actuator serial number and verify that it is on the inspection list of actuators. If the actuator is on the list, remove it and direct ship the actuator to Woodward for a replacement. If the actuator is "NOT" on the list, no further action is required. The steps for actuator return to Woodward are as follows:
1. Contact Melisa Gloden (970-498-3564) for a return authorization number (RA #)and expected/estimated inspection/repair turnaround time.

2. Remove the "inspection list" actuator from the engine and ship back to Woodward using the following shipping information.

Include return shipping information for Woodward. Woodward will inspect, rework the actuators as needed, and ship them back to the dealership using the supplied return shipping instructions.
