An alternative filter base (2), with alternative studs (1), may be installed to the 230-9789 Hydraulic Tank Gp on certain machines. Machines within the above serial number ranges, may have the alternative parts installed.

The alternate studs cannot be used with the original filter base. The original studs cannot be used with the alternate filter base.

Solution

Caterpillar is aware of this problem. In the event of failure of the filter base (2), or of a filter stud (1), identify the filter base prior to repair. Refer to Illustration 2 and Illustration 3.

3G-2725 Filter Base (Primary cast version)

• If the failed filter base is 3G-2725, replace with the same 3G-2725 Filter Base

• If the failed stud is assembled to filter base 3G-2725, replace with same 3G-2815 Stud

• If the failed filter base is the ‘Alternate Filter Base (Machined)’, remove and discard both the filter base and the stud. Replace with 3G-2725 Filter Base and two 3G-2815 Studs

• If the failed stud is assembled to ‘Alternate Filter Base (Machined)’, remove and discard both the Filter Base and the Stud. Replace with 3G-2725 Filter Base and two 3G-2815 Studs
