Table 2
Troubleshooting Steps  Value  Results

1. Check for Codes

A. Connect Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) to the dosing cabinet service port connector.

B. Determine if the code is logged or active.

Codes

Result: A -5 code is present.

Proceed to Test Step 2.

Result: A -6 code is present.

Proceed to Test Step 3.

2. Check the Wiring for an Open Circuit

A. Verify that the harness connector is free of debris, corrosion, and secured.

B. Remove the electrical power from the Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) Controller.

C. Disconnect connector PR-C674 from the aftertreatment wiring harness.

D. Install a jumper wire between the terminals E and F of the aftertreatment harness connector PR-C674. The aftertreatment harness is replaced with a short circuit.

E. Restore the electrical power to the ECM.

F. Connect Cat ET to the dosing cabinet service port connector.

G. Monitor the active diagnostic code screen on Cat ET. Check and record any active diagnostic codes.

Note: Wait at least 30 seconds in order for the diagnostic code to be-come active.

Create a Short

Result: A -5 code became active.

The SCR controller did not detect the jumper wire. There is an open circuit between the aftertreatment wiring harness connector PR-C674 and the SCR ECM connector J1 PR-C5. There might be a problem with a connector.

Repair: Repair or replace the connectors or wiring.

Proceed to Test Step 4.

Result: A -6 code became active.

The SCR Controller detected the jumper wire. The wiring between the Selective Catalyst Reduction Controller and the PR-C674 connector is OK. There is a problem with the Aftertreatment Doser Ready Status input circuit between the PR-C674 connector and the customer connection.

Repair: Repair or replace the wiring harness between the PR-C674 connector and the customer connection.

Proceed to Test Step 4.

3. Check the Wiring to the Engine Harness for a Short Circuit

A. Turn keyswitch to OFF.

B. Disconnect connector PR-C674 from the aftertreatment wiring harness.

C. Turn keyswitch to ON.

D. Connect Cat ET using the dosing cabinet service port connector.

E. Monitor the active diagnostic code screen on Cat ET. Check and record any active diagnostic codes.

Short Circuit

Result: A -5 code became active.

Result: A -6 code became active.

There is a short circuit in the wiring between the aftertreatment wiring harness connector PR-C674 and the SCR System ECM connector J1PR-C5. There may be a problem with a connector.

Repair: Repair or replace the connectors or wiring.

Proceed to Test Step 4.

4. Check for Codes

A. Connect Cat ET to the dosing cabinet service port connector.

B. Determine if the code is logged or active.

Codes

Result: No codes are present.

Return to service.
