A New Integral Seal is Now Available for Certain 3524B Engines {1151, 1157, 1162, 1166, 1206, 3279, 7555}

Usage:

3512B CND
Engine
3524B (S/N: CND1-449; NPM1-569)

A new integral seal is now available for certain 3524B Engines. A new gasket design using a metal carrier with edge bonded rubber sealing has been introduced for 3524B Engines for the front engine to rear housing, and the rear engine to front housing joints.

This gasket eliminates the need to retorque these housings after an initial run in period. The new 503-0090 Integral Seal (gasket) is thicker than the current 309-4550 Gasket, the existing 345-0592 Flywheel Housing, and 345-0594 Front Drive Housing can be reworked to install the new gasket.

The new integral seal is adaptable to the products within the listed serial numbers.

The new and former part numbers are listed in Table 1.

Table 1
Qty  New Part number  Part Name  Former Part Number(1)
503-0090  Integral Seal  309-4550
511-9065  Flywheel Housing  345-0592
512-5750  Front Housing  345-0594
(1) The former part number listed is for reference only and may differ.

Note: Special Instruction, REHS4838 , "Replacing the Gaskets on the Flywheel Housing and Coupling Housing on 797 and 797B Off-Highway Truck Engines" does not have to be performed on the engine serial numbers given in Table 2before first fit in chassis, the extended dyno, and retorque is performed at the factory.

Current housings may be reused by removing 1.60 mm (0.063 inch) from the surface which engages the engine block profile, deburr the bolt holes after machining.

Apply Loctite 243 to all bolts, and install using appropriate torque values. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly , RENR2276 , "3524B Engine for Caterpillar Built Machines" for correct torque values.

Note: Flatness must be 0.10 mm (0.004 inch) with a surface finish of 3.2 μm (125 micro inch). Mark any reworked housing with the appropriate new part number.
