Inspection Procedure

  1. Clean the cylinder liner flange and the cylinder block surface. Remove any nicks on the top of the cylinder block.

  2. Install cap (5) on the cylinder liner.

  3. Attach plate (3) to the block using three cylinder head bolts (2) and three spacers (4).

  4. Tighten screw (1) to 170 N·m (125 lb ft).

  5. Loosen bolt (8) until dial indicator (6) can be moved. Place gauge body (7) and dial indicator (6) on the long side of gauge (9).

  6. Slide dial indicator (6) into the correct position. When the point of the dial indicator contacts gauge (9), the dial indicator is in the correct position. Slide the dial indicator until the needle of the gauge makes a quarter of a revolution clockwise. The needle should be in a vertical position. Tighten bolt (8) and zero the dial indicator.

  7. Place gauge body (7) on the spacer plate for the cylinder block. The indicator point should be on the liner flange. Read the dial indicator to find the amount of liner projection. Check the projection at four locations (every 90 degrees) around each cylinder liner.

  8. If a liner does not meet the recommended cylinder liner projection specification, replace adjustment ring (10).

Adjustment rings are available in the following thicknesses:

    • 0.08 mm (0.003 inch)

    • 0.10 mm (0.004 inch)

    • 0.12 mm (0.005 inch)

    • 0.14 mm (0.006 inch)
