Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Diagnostic trouble code 1239-1 is occurring on the machines listed above. This code indicates the "Fuel Rail Pressure Is Low" even though there is no leakage in the machine.

Solution

Use the following steps to inspect for the leakage :

(A) Rail pressure sensor
(B) Pressure discharge valve
(C) Pre-stroke control valve (PCV)

  1. Check for lack of fuel to the engine :

    • If code only occurs when fuel tank is low, then that is the likely cause.

    • The maximum slope to travel across is 18.4 Degrees. If traveling across such a slope and the fuel tank is less than a quarter of tank, the fuel tank pick-up tube will be above the fuel level.

    • The fuel tank cap does not vent. Remove the fuel tank cap, if air vents when the fuel cap is removed then replace the fuel cap. Look on the inside of the fuel cap, if the orange diaphragm is missing then replace the cap.

    • Filters could be clogged. Document the hours on the fuel filter and visually check the lift pump screen for being clogged. Replace the  fuel filter and lift pump filter.

    • Check that the lift pump creates approximately 83 kPa (12 psi) of pressure when dead headed.

    • Check that the lift pump flow is approximately ~0.5 gpm with the free flow.

  2. Check that the wires for the rail pressure sensor (A), pressure discharge valve (B), and pre-stroke control valve (PCV) (C) are not bent excessively or pulled tight at the connector.
