Functional Test

The Cat Monitoring System performs an automatic internal test when the engine start switch is moved from the OFF position to the ON position. The test verifies proper operation of the outputs (displays, alert indicators, and the action alarm) and the internal circuits. The operator must observe the displays to determine whether the monitoring system is operating properly. The length of time for the test is approximately 3 seconds.

  1. During this test the action alarm sounds once.

  2. All of the indicators will illuminate and the indicators will switch colors, if supported.

  3. All of the pixels in the digital display window will turn on.

  4. All of the gauge needles will sweep smoothly from left to right over the duration of the test.

  5. The display then goes into Normal Mode of operation.

Performance Pages

Illustration 7g03657287
Performance Page

The performance pages on the monitoring system are the main introductory pages. Real-time machine status information is displayed on the performance page.

Categories for the navigation buttons are displayed on the right-hand side of the performance page.

Top Level Navigation

Right-hand Side Navigation Buttons

The Information Display has five buttons that act as the principle navigation. The Display buttons have an icon and are on the right-hand side of the Display. The right-hand side buttons are considered the categories for navigation.

Display - Press the display button to view the display menu.

Machine - Press the machine button to view the machine menu.

Totals - Press the totals button to view the totals menu.

Service - Press the service button to view the service menu.

Operator - Press the operator button to view the operator menu.

Menu Navigation Buttons

At the selection of a category, a menu appears and the right-hand side buttons change to navigation buttons. While in the submenus, the right-hand buttons are displayed as the navigation keys for the category selected. In this state, the right-hand side buttons are "Up", "OK", "Down", "Back", and "Home".

Up - The "Up" navigation button navigates lists and menus in the upward direction.

OK - The "OK" button selects a highlighted item, and confirms an action.

Down - The "Down" navigation button navigates lists and menus in the downward direction.

Back - The "Back" button navigates to the previous screen, and cancels an action.

Home - The "Home" button navigates to the default screen from anywhere within the Display.

Menu Buttons and Menu Button Groups

Navigation through menu lists and submenus is possible by using the menu button groups. Menu buttons do not show a pressed state. Instead, menu buttons highlight in yellow when the operator selects an item. A menu button group is accessible by directly touching a single button within the group, or by using the navigation buttons along the right side. To select the highlighted item, press or touch the "OK" button. On certain machines, if more than four options are available and appear in a menu button group, a non-interactive scroll bar will appear.

Scroll Bar

The scroll bar object is used to navigate between the main performance pages. The scroll bar is distinguished from the non-interactive scroll bar by using an image to show the button characteristic in yellow. The scroll bar slider is also visually wider and has an expanded activation zone to reduce activation error. This scroll bar slider brings the next page into view with either a touch above or below the slider or a directional drag of the slider. Arrows appear on the slider bar when more pages are available above or below.

Additional Information

Reference: More detailed information about the use of Information Display is available in a separate publication. Refer to Systems Operation, KENR6489, "Wheel Dozer, Soil Compactor, Landfill Compactor, and Large Wheel Loader Information Display (touchscreen)".

Warning Categories

The Cat Monitoring System notifies the operator of an immediate problem with a machine system or an impending problem with a machine system. The Cat Monitoring System provides four warning categories. The categories are based on the severity of the problem. The categories dictate the required response of the operator.

Table 2
WARNING OPERATION
Warning Category  Warning Indications (1)  Required Action  Possible Result (2)
Flashing Indicator Flashing Action Lamp  Sounding of the Action Alarm
No immediate action is required. The system needs attention soon.  No harm or damage
Change machine operation or perform maintenance to the system.  Severe damage to components
2-S  X (3)  Immediately change the machine operation.  Severe damage to components
X (4)  Immediately perform a safe engine shutdown.  Injury to the operator or severe damage to components
(1) The warning indicators that are active are marked with an "X".
(2) These are possible results if no action is taken.
(3) The alarm is on continuously.
(4) The alarm is on intermittently.

Cab Pressure Indicator

The cab pressure indicator is located inside the cab to the right of the control panel.

Illustration 18g03857504
(1) Red Zone
(2) Green Zone
(3) Indicator

If the cab pressure is too low, the indicator (3) will be in the red zone (1).

The following are reasons why the gauge could be in the red zone:

  • A door or window is open.

  • The HVAC system is not on.

  • The fresh air filter is clogged.

  • There is an excessive leak.

  • The fresh air filter or recirculation filter is not installed properly.

  • The HVAC system or indicator's gage has malfunctioned.

Note: Make sure that the cab pressure indicator is working by blowing on the inside pressure port to see if the piston moves and returns properly.
