Securing the C4.4 Generator Set for Transportation {7274}

Introduction

Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read the information and you understand the information.

Transportation damage can be caused do to improperly securing the product destined to the dealership location or the end customer site.

Caterpillar ® have noted instances, where dealer transportation ratchets the unit down using straps onto the truck for secure transport. The ratcheting may cause the roofs to bend under the tension of the straps. To prevent further damage to the enclosure roof (as shown in Illustration 1 and 2), Caterpillar ® is requesting that all transportation carriers use chains to secure the base of the generator set units to the transportation vehicle.

Shown above in Illustration 3 and 4 is an example of a preferred method used within the United States for securing the load to the transportation vehicle. This method only serves as a reference. Follow all local regulations when securing a product to the transport vehicle.
