Recommended Actions

Table 2
Troubleshooting Test Steps  Value  Results

1. Check for Codes

A. Use Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) to check for any logged or active diagnostic codes.

Codes

Result: There are not any codes.

Proceed to Test Step 2.

Result: There are codes logged or active.

Repair: Troubleshoot any code before continuing with this procedure.

If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 2.

2. Gather Operator Information from the Operator

Operator information

Result: Gathered all relative information from the customer that pertains the operation and symptoms of the machine.

Proceed to Test Step 3.

3. Verify that the Complaint is Not Due to Normal Engine Operation

A. Use information gathered from the customer to decide if symptoms are related to normal engine operations under different conditions. Refer to the Systems Operation for more information.

Engine operation

Result: The symptoms are related to normal engine operations.

Return the machine to service.

Result: The symptoms are not related to normal engine operations.

Proceed to Test Step 4.

4. Perform a Visual Inspection of the Engine.

A. Inspect the following items:

- Fuel level
- Fuel supply
- Engine oil level
- Engine oil supply
- Coolant level
- Intake air system
- Air exhaust system

System components

Result: The system components are OK.

Proceed to Test Step 5.

Result: The system components are NOT OK.

Repair: Make any repairs as necessary.

If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 5.

5. Check the Electrical Wiring and Connectors:

A. Inspect the wiring and connectors for the following issues:

- Damage
- Abrasion
- Corrosion
- Incorrect attachment

Electrical connectors and wiring

Result: There were electrical connectors and/or wiring that are NOT OK.
