NOTICE

Check the turbocharger's nameplate for the model. If the model or type on the turbocharger's nameplate reads NA 297 or Napier 297, use the installation procedure for the NA 297 Turbocharger Cartridge.

Note: If the nozzle was removed, use Step 1 through Step 5 in order to install the nozzle from the compressor side of the turbocharger.

  1. Place the nozzle into the gas inlet housing.

  2. Place the clamping ring onto the nozzle. Align the holes.

  3. Apply Tooling (A) to the threads of the capscrews. Install the capscrews and lock washers in the clamping ring. Tighten the capscrews to a torque of 67 N·m (50 lb ft).

  4. Fit the shroud assembly to the gas outlet housing.

  5. Install the capscrews and lock washers in the shroud assembly. Tighten the capscrews to a torque of 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

Note: The following paragraph relates to the front turbocharger only. If turbocharger cartridge (5) is being assembled to gas outlet housing (3) on the engine, be sure to properly position the O-ring seal. This O-ring seal is placed on the oil drain on the turbocharger support. (Later designs eliminate the O-Ring seal and these engines use a tube that is inserted into the turbocharger support.) When you replace a turbocharger cartridge, be sure that the proper cover is removed from the oil drain hole. The other drain holes must remain plugged.

  6. Fit cartridge assembly (5) in gas outlet housing (3).

  7. Install mounting bolts (4). Tighten the mounting bolts to a torque of 492 N·m (365 lb ft).

  8. Install the nuts and washers on the studs on gas outlet housing (3). Install the safety bolts.

  9. Connect the alternate oil feed, if necessary.

  10. Install the alternate oil drain line, if necessary.

  11. Connect the turbocharger wash group, if necessary.

  12. Connect the speed sensor connection.
