Factory Password - Obtain

You may use the following methods to obtain a factory password. The first method is via the Feature Protection System (FPS) via the Internet. The second method is via the telephone help line. The procedures for both methods are listed in the following sections.

Internet

  1. The Feature Protection System (FPS) is a secure web site and a password is required. Proceed to step 1.a if you do not have a "Login ID" and a "Password". Proceed to step 2 if you already have a "Login ID" and a "Password".

    1. Refer to the "Telephone Help Line" section or see your Caterpillar dealer to obtain the factory password.

  2. Open your web browser. Enter the address for the Factory Password System (FPS) (“http://fps.cat.com”) in the address bar of the web browser.

    Upon accessing FPS, the "Corporate Web Security" web site will appear.

  3. Enter your "Login ID" and "Password" into the "Corporate Web Security" site. Refer to Illustration 1.

  4. Select "Get Passwords" from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

  5. Enter the required information in Step 1, 2 and 3.

    Note: The information that is required in may be obtained from the "Enter Factory Passwords" screen in Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET). Refer to Illustration 3.

  6. Click the "Generate Password" button once all information has been added. The passwords will then be generated.

  7. Record both of the factory passwords.

    Note: Both passwords are required, to change any parameters of the Machine Security System.

Telephone Help Line

The telephone help line for factory passwords is available at the telephone number that is listed below:

(309) 636-8500

Note: (309) 636-8500 is also the telephone number for the Dealer Solutions Network (DSN).

The telephone help line will need the information that is listed to obtain the password:

  • "Product Serial Number"

  • Service Meter Hours ("Engine Unit Block")

  • Serial number of the Service Tool (Electronic Technician)

  • Serial Number of the Machine ECM

  • Total Tattletale Value

  • Reason Code

Note: The information that is listed "Telephone Help Line" may be obtained from the "Enter Factory Passwords" screen in the Caterpillar ® Electronic Technician (ET). Refer to Illustration 4.
