The machine security system (MSS) uses a Caterpillar electronic key. The key contains an electronic chip that is embedded in the head of the key. This chip contains a unique identification number. No two keys have the same ID. The electronic key uses the same key cut as the standard Caterpillar key. The electronic key can be used to operate machines that are not equipped with the MSS. The head of the electronic key is either gray or yellow.
A security bypass feature will allow a machine to operate with any key. Refer to Systems Operation Testing and Adjusting, "Scheduled Access - Program" in this manual for additional information.
Security Management
Use Caterpillar Electronic Technician® (Caterpillar ET), version 2015 A or later, to manage the settings of the MSS. There are restrictions on accessing the settings. The "Security Management" feature for the MSS controls the access to the settings.
