Start By:

  1. Remove electronic control module

  2. Remove air inlet shutoff


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the coolant . Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC)- Change" for the correct draining procedures.

  2. Remove bolt (4) and the cable ties holding harness assemblies (2) to guard (3). Position harness assemblies (2) out of the way.

  3. Remove the washers, the spacers, mounts (1), and guard (3).

  4. Remove bolts (6) and guard (5).

  5. Remove bolt (9) and guard (8).

  6. Remove nuts (7).

  7. Remove bolt (11), nuts (12), and bracket (10).

  8. Remove nuts (14) and guard (13).

  9. Remove hose clamps (16) and disconnect the hoses.

  10. Remove bolts (15) and attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to aftercooler (18). The weight of aftercooler (18) is approximately 45 kg (100 lb).

  11. Remove bolt (17) then remove the aftercooler (18).
