A seat with an improved design and added features is now available as a replacement for Contour seats used in the machines listed above. This new seat is called the Cat Optimized Seating Solution (COSS). A video on how to properly adjust the COSS seat can be found on the Caterpillar Media Information Center website, AEVN767402, "Cat Optimized Seat Application Video". To properly install the seat inside the cab, one should follow the rework procedure listed in this document.

(1) New cab optimized seat

The former contour seats can be replaced with new 443-8228 Suspension Seat Gp (Vinyl seat) and/or 443-8261 Suspension Seat Gp (Cloth seat). The new Cat ^® optimized seat is adaptable to all machines that are listed above.

Use the following rework procedure in order to install new optimized seat for all the above listed machines:

Note: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR2165, "Comfort Seat with Lumbar Option and Side Controls - Disassemble" and Disassembly and Assembly, RENR2165, "Comfort Seat with Lumbar Option and Side Controls - Assemble" for installing the armrests.

1. Remove stop bolt (A) from the seat frame. Discard the part.

2. Slide existing seat forward as required in order to access rear stop bolt (B). Remove and discard the part.

3. Remove and discard the existing suspension seat.

4. Position new suspension seat (1) to the existing seat frame.

   Both 443-8228 Suspension Seat Gp and 443-8261 Suspension Seat Gp are available as an optional replacement for the former seat group based on the preferences.

5. Install new stop block (2) using two screws (1) in the seat frame as shown in Illustration 5. Tighten two screws (2) to 15 N·m (133 lb in)

   Note: Before assembly, apply blue Loctite 243 to all external threads.
