Introduction

The problem that is identified below does have a known permanent solution. Use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Clarification for Quick Coupler Parameters.

Solution 1

Software before Summer 2014 should have only had one Quick Coupler setting "Quick Coupler Installation Status".

This feature should have had three settings.

Not Installed

  1. Quick Coupler control system is not installed on the machine.

Installed without Coupler Accelerator

  1. This setting is the traditional North American setting that only applies voltage to the coupler valve when the switch is flipped. This setting is used with the center lock and old pin grabber couplers (not ISO coupler). This setting can also be used on machines with the universal coupler.

Installed with Coupler Accelerator

  1. This setting is used on EAME machines with universal coupler. Except 336E H, the machine must have the added hardware for this feature. In addition to applying voltage to the Quick Coupler valve, it also energizes another solenoid that causes pump pressure to rise. This is often done through shifting the boom 2 spool in the reverse direction to block the NFC open center passage, causing NFC pressure to drop and the pump to stroke up. Because the universal coupler valve is plumbed to the pump discharge pressure tap, it will immediately receive pressure to start unlocking the coupler before the operator has moved the joystick. This setting is not to be used with the center lock or old pin grabber and again requires the added hardware on non-ACS machines.

Solution 2

Starting the summer of 2014, software become available that has provisions for the new ISO coupler. Machines that have this software feature will have a second coupler configuration setting called "Quick Coupler Constant Engagement Pressure System Installation Status"

This feature will have two settings.

Not Installed

  1. This setting is for machines that do not have the factory ISO Pin Grabber coupler control system. This setting would be machines built before the ISO coupler control system was available from the factory. Machines with the universal coupler control system, and machines that use the "Work Tools" field install ISO coupler control system utilizing Hydromechanical signals instead of the second solenoid valve.

Installed

  1. This setting is for machines that have the factory ISO Pin Grabber coupler control system installed from the factory or field installation. Machines with the "ISO Pin Grabber" coupler installed must have a quick coupler "Hold Valve" in the system.

Installation Status Table

Quick Coupler Installation Status     Quick Coupler Constant Engagement Pressure System Installation Status
Center lock Coupler Control System     Installed without Coupler Accelerator     Not Installed
Universal Coupler Control System     Installed with Coupler Accelerator     Not Installed

Work Tools ISO Cat Pin Grabber Hydromechanical Control System (1)     Installed without Coupler Accelerator     Not Installed
( 1 ) Does not use the second solenoid "Hold Valve", but uses pilot and bucket head end pressure signals instead.
