Caterpillar Advanced Ride Management (CARM) Seat Suspension Troubleshooting
Problem Description | Possible Cause | Recommended Action |
---|---|---|
Blue Status Light is Off | No power to the seat | Verify key is in the ON position. |
Bad connection due to loose or disconnected wires | Unplug and plug in connectors. Verify 24 V to the seat at the cab connection. |
|
Bad fuse in machine | Visually inspect fuse and replace as needed. | |
Wire damage | Visual inspection and/or continuity check based on schematic (attached). If seat is newer than Serial Number 19041346104 or date 4/23/2013, use ET tool (2013B v1.0 and up) to check fault codes. |
|

Shock failure | Check temperature sensitive sticker on top of shock to see if the sticker is overheated (black in color). If so, replace the shock | |
Seat makes noises:
Squealing |
Excessive wear of components | Replace worn component – Refer to System Operation, RENR2165and Special Instruction, REHS0887 |
Missing / dry / misadjusted slider blocks | Replace, adjust, or lubricate slider blocks | |
Seat makes noises:
Slurping |
Leaky shock | Replace shock |
Seat makes noises:
Clicking / Ratcheting |
Wire damage | Visual inspection and/or continuity check based on schematic (included) |
Seat makes noises:
Hissing |
Air system leak | Identify location of leak and replace component |
Seat will not move up / No compressor noise when the Height/Weight Adjustment knob is pressed | No power to the seat | Verify key is in the ON position Verify 24 V to the seat at the connection |
No power to the compressor | Verify connection at the compressor Verify continuity of wires to compressor |
|
No power to the H/W knob | Verify connection at the H/W knob Verify continuity of wires to the H/W knob Refer to System Operation, RENR2165and Special Instruction, REHS0887 |
|
Seat will not move / Seat is stiff | No power to the seat | Verify key is in the ON position Verify 24 V to the seat at the connection See status light description |
Foreign object inside the suspension mechanism is hampering movement | Remove foreign object | |
Replace or adjust slider blocks | Leaky shock | Replace shock |
Seat feels loose | Loose fasteners | Loose fasteners |
Missing / worn slider blocks | Replace or adjust slider blocks | |
Seat operation is jerky | Wire damage | Visual inspection and/or continuity check based on schematic (included) If seat is newer than Serial Number 19041346104 or date 4/23/2013, use ET tool (2013B v1.0 and up) to check fault codes |
Leaky shock | Replace shock | |
Foreign object inside the suspension mechanism is hampering movement | Remove foreign object |
Schematic for ET Jumper Harness
A jumper harness can be created to check fault codes with the ET Tool (2013B v1.0 and up) on certain CARM suspensions. Any suspension built after April 23, 2013 and/or with a serial number later than 19041346104 will be compatible with the ET Tool. The jumper consists of four wires, two connectors, and a resistor. CARM Seat ET Connection (Pre Series K Models)
- Connect CAT ET and start connection to the ECM.
- You will see the " Attempting to Connect" window open. Click "Stop Connect".
- Select WINFLASH. CAT ET will search ATA, CDL then for the J1939 data link.
- Now, power up the seat suspension.
- The screen will open like you are going to flash the ECM. Now, go to the top left and connect to CAT ET. Wait, CAT ET will hook up!
Note: Using ET Tool (2013B v1.0 and up) and jumper described above
