Generator - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the fuel tank.

  1. Disconnect harness assembly (1). Remove bolts (2) and leave panel (3) loosely positioned with the wiring harnesses attached. Remove bottom closeout panel (4) and the seal.

  2. Remove panels (5), (6), (7), (8), and (9).

  3. Mark the location of the individual wires and disconnect harness assemblies (10), (11), (13), and (14) from the circuit breaker panels. Disconnect cable assemblies (12). Cut the cable straps that secure the harness assemblies and remove the harness assemblies from the generator housing.

  4. Disconnect power cables (18) from the stator and position out of the way.

  5. Remove bracket assembly (16). Disconnect hose assembly (17).

  6. Remove bolts (18).

  7. Slide housing assembly (19) away from the generator. Position housing assembly (19) at a 15 degree angle as shown in Illustration 9 until housing assembly (19) is clear of the frame rails.

  8. Lower housing assembly (19) onto suitable cribbing in order to prevent damage to the mounting surfaces. Position housing assembly (19) as shown in Illustration 11 and remove housing assembly (19).

  9. Remove covers (21) from lifting locations, if equipped. Remove covers (20) and (22).

  10. Remove bolts (23).

  11. Remove bolts (25). Turn adjusters (24) until the shims can be removed. Record location and number of shims for reinstallation. Repeat for the opposite side.

  12. Turn adjusters (24) until generator (26) rests on the frame rails.

  13. Attach suitable tooling to generator (26) and pulling plates (27). Use tooling to move generator (26) to the rear of the frame rails. The weight of generator (26) is approximately 5311 kg (11,709 lb).

    Note: Pulling plates (27) are designed for removing the generator only and have a working limit of 3000 kg (6615 lb). DO NOT use pulling plates (27) to remove the genset assembly. The weight of the genset assembly is approximately 14787 kg (32,600 lb).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install generator (26) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. For Information regarding the installation and alignment of generator (26), refer to Disassembly and Assembly, KENR5284, "Install 1600 Frame and 1800 Frame Two Bearing Generators".
