Loctite 620 Retaining Compound - Slip Fit/High Temp

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Clean all parts thoroughly in cleaning fluid before assembly. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

  1. Install inner seal (27) with the flat portion of inner seal (27) toward the bottom of the groove in piston housing (14).

  2. Install outer seal (26) with the flat portion of outer seal (26) toward the bottom of the groove in piston housing (14).

  3. Lubricate inner seal (27) and outer seal (26) with the lubricant that is being sealed.

    ------ WARNING! ------

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury.

To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.

  6. Install spring guides (16) and springs (17) to piston housing (14).

  7. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press in order to compress springs (17).

  8. Install retaining pins (14) (not shown) into spring guides (15).

Note: Steps 9 through 12 are for the installation of the service brake wear indicator.

Note: The service brake wear indicator must be installed into the correct location of the brake piston. If the service brake wear indicator was removed, use Steps 9 through 12 in order to install the service brake wear indicator correctly .

Hollow dowel locations. The current view shows the hollow dowel in the "RF/LR" location.

  9. Locate the correct position in order to install the service brake wear indicator. The piston housing has identification marks that indicate the placement of the wear indicator pin. The indication marks are "RF/LR" and "LF/RR". Install the indicator pin in the appropriate location.

"RF/LR" - The identification mark on the piston housing for the installation in the right front service brake or installation in the left rear service brake.

"LF/RR" - The identification mark on the piston housing for the installation in the left front service brake or installation in the right rear service brake.

  11. Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of hollow dowel (21).

  12. Thread hollow dowel (21) into piston housing (14) until Dimension (B) is equal to 8.70 ± 0.25 mm (0.343 ± 0.010 inch). The amount of wear indicator pin (20) that is exposed is critical to determine when the brake disc life has been exceeded.

Note: Piston (23) must be fully retracted into piston housing (14) in order to set the correct hollow dowel (21) length.

  13. Apply the lubricant that is being sealed to friction discs (12), (10), (8), and (6).

  14. Install outer plate (13), friction disc (12), outer plate (11), friction disc (10), outer plate (9), friction disc (8), outer plate (7), and friction disc (5) to spindle assembly (1).

  15. Install hub (4) into spindle assembly (1).

  16. Install retaining ring (3).

  17. Install O-ring seal (2).

End By:

  1. Install the final drive, the wheel, and the service brake piston housing.
