The flywheel interface PWA is the interface between the APC3 system controller and the following signals:

  • Flywheel bearing temps

  • Field coil temps

  • Armature temps

  • Speed sensing

  • Vibration signals

The flywheel interface board digitizes the load cell, top bearing force, and speed/vibrations signals (RPS) and sends the signals serially to the APC3. The flywheel temperature and vacuum signals are also sent through the flywheel interface board, then to the APC3.

Removal

The flywheel cabinet must be de-energized before removal steps can be performed.

  1. Refer to Systems Operation, Test and Adjust, UENR4695, "Internal Component Pre-Removal Steps". Perform the internal component pre-removal procedure to shut down the system and to gain access to internal components.

  2. Disconnect RPS J1, J3, J4, J6, J7, J8, and FWI J1. The connectors are labeled to identify the correct location of each connector. Verify that each connector has a label and the label is legible.

  3. Remove the ground screw from the bottom left corner.

  4. Disconnect the three white plastic stand-offs that connect the board to the panel. Use the following method.

Note: The board must be removed from the stand-offs without bending the board.

    1. Pinch the head of each stand-off so that the board is not locked but is still attached to the stand-off.

    2. Remove the board by gently and evenly pulling the board from each stand-off at the same time.

Installation

  1. Position the board in the cabinet over each white stand-off.

  2. Push the board, gently and evenly, onto all the stand-offs simultaneously. Make sure all stand-offs are locked in place.

  3. Reconnect RPS J1, J3, J4, J6, J7, J8, and FWI J1. Check the labels on each connector to ensure that each connector has been installed in the proper location.
