Introduction

The following procedure describes the setup, checking, and adjusting of the stop lamp limit switch.

Test Preparation

  1. Move the machine to a hard, level surface. The surface must also be dry and free of debris.

  2. Engage the parking brake

  3. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.

  4. Ensure that there is no interference with other components when both brake pedals are applied and released. When both brake pedals are in the released position, the stop lamps for the machine should be in the "OFF" position.

Test Procedure

(3) Pedal stop
(4) Treadle heel stop

  1. Insert a 3.5 mm (0.14 inch) feeler gauge between Treadle heel stop (4) and pedal stop (3) of both the left brake pedal and the right brake pedal. Monitor the stop lights. When the feeler gauges are in place, the stop lights should be ON. Remove the feeler gauges.

  2. Insert a 1.5 mm (0.06 inch) feeler gauge between Treadle heel stop (4) and pedal stop (3) of both the left brake pedal and the right brake pedal. Monitor the stop light. When the feeler gauges are in place, the stop lights should be OFF. Remove the feeler gauges.

  3. Ensure that the stop lights go ON and OFF when the brake pedals are applied and released. If the stop lights work properly, no adjustments are necessary at this time.

  4. If steps 1, 2, and 3 are not satisfied, perform the following procedure.

Adjustment Procedure

  1. Insert a 3.5 mm (0.14 inch) feeler gauge between Treadle heel stop (4) and pedal stop (3) of both the left brake pedal and the right brake pedal.

    (2) Adjustment screw

  2. Remove plug (1) and turn the adjustment screw for switch (2) counterclockwise in order to turn the stop lights OFF. Then, turn the adjustment screw for the switch clockwise until the stop lights turn ON. When the feeler gauges are in place, the stop lights should be ON. Remove the feeler gauges. The stop light should be OFF.

  3. Insert the 1.5 mm (0.06 inch) feeler gauge between Treadle heel stop (4) and pedal stop (3) of both the left brake pedal and the right brake pedal. Monitor the stop lights. When the feeler gauges are in place, the stop lights should be OFF. Remove the feeler gauges.

  4. Ensure that the stop lights go ON and OFF when both of the brake pedals are applied and released. Repeat steps 1, 2, and 3 if the stop lights do not work properly.

Note: If the stop lights will not operate properly after the adjustment procedure, the limit switch will need to be replaced.

  5. Install plug (1) and torque the plug to 1.4 ± 0.3 N·m (12.0 ± 3.0 lb in)
