Introduction

This procedure describes the test to verify the Parking Brake functionality.

Test Preparation

  1. Position the machine on a dry, hard, level surface.

  2. Be sure that the machine is in an open area and that the area is clear of personnel.

  3. Place the steering frame lock in the STORED position.

Test Procedure

  1. Fasten the seat belt before testing the parking brake

  2. Start the engine and raise the bucket slightly.

  3. Engage the parking brake switch in order to engage the parking brake.

  4. Apply the service brakes.

  5. Move the STIC control lock to the UNLOCKED position.

  6. Move the STIC upshift switch in order to place the transmission in third speed FORWARD. Move the STIC transmission direction control switch to the FORWARD (F) position.

Note: With the parking brake engaged and the transmission in any gear except neutral, the warning buzzer will sound intermittently.

  7. Release the Service brakes.

Note: The parking brake will remain engaged.

  8. Gradually increase the engine speed to 1050 RPM. The wheels shall not turn (or the torque shall not be stalled). If the machine moves, check for wear on the plates for the parking brake and on the discs for the parking brake.

  9. Reduce the engine speed to low idle. Move the STIC transmission direction control switch to NEUTRAL (N) position.

  10. Lower the bucket to the ground. Stop the engine.
