Service Brakes - Test

Usage:

826K 232

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result if the machine moves while checking the service brakes.

If the machine begins to move during the check, reduce the engine speed immediately and engage the parking brake.

NOTICE

If the machine moved while testing the service brakes, inspect the service brake components for wear or damage. Repair or replace the worn or damaged service brake components as required before returning the machine to service.

Introduction

The following procedure describes the machine preparation and checking of the service brakes. The procedure is not intended to measure the maximum braking effort.

Check Preparation

  1. Position the machine on a dry, hard, level surface.

  2. Be sure that the machine is in an open area and that the area is clear of personnel.

  3. Place the steering frame lock in the STORED position.

Check Procedure

  1. Fasten the seat belt before testing service brakes.

  2. Start the engine and raise the bucket slightly

Note: Allow the oil pressure in the accumulator to reach 16000 ± 345 kPa (2320 ± 50 psi).

  3. Apply the service brakes.

  4. Disengage the parking brake.

  5. Move the STIC control lock to the UNLOCKED position.

  6. Reduce engine speed to low idle.

  7. Move the STIC upshift switch in order to place the transmission in second speed FORWARD. Move the STIC transmission direction control switch to the FORWARD (F) position.

  8. Gradually increase the engine speed to 1500 RPM. The machine must not move.

  9. Reduce the engine speed to low idle. Move the STIC transmission direction control switch to NEUTRAL (N) position. Engage the parking brake. Lower the bucket to the ground. Stop the engine.
