Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Card - Test

Usage:

826K 232
The SIM Card is not detected by the Communication Gateway #1 ECM. Three consecutive samples from the master board indicate that the SIM Card is not detected.

Table 1 lists subscriber identity module (SIM) card diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

Possible -14 DTC causes are:

  • SIM card failure

  • SIM card not installed

  • SIM card not activated

Troubleshooting Test Steps  Values  Results 

1. Identify the Active DTC Associated With the SIM Card

A. Use Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET) to determine DTCs. 

DTC is not present 

OK - DTC is not present.

Stop

Not OK - DTC is present.

Go to Step 2. 

2. Check Connections

A. Inspect the circuit harness connectors. 

Connectors are:
* Clean
* Secure
* In good condition 

OK - Connections are good.

Go to Step 3.

Not OK - A connection problem exists.

Repair:

A. Clean and secure connectors.

B. Verify that the problem is corrected.

STOP 

3. Check SIM Status After a Power Cycle

A. Turn off the key switch.

B. Close the disconnect.

C. Wait a few moments.

D. Reapply power.

E. Turn on the disconnect.

F. Turn on the key switch.

G. Wait 3 minutes.

H. Connect Cat ET.

I. Recheck the SIM status. 

SIM card is detected by the master board in a low-power mode(1) 

OK - Card detected and function correct.

Stop

Not OK - Card not detected or function not correct.

Go to Step 4. 

4. Verify That the SIM Card Is Present and Properly Installed

A. Remove power from the machine.

B. Remove SIM card cover.

C. Remove and reinstall the SIM card. 

SIM card is present and properly installed 

OK - Card is OK.

Go to Step 5.

STOP

Not OK - Card is not OK.

Repair:

If present, secure the SIM card in the slot.

If not present, contact your Technical Communicator (TC) to report the issue and order a new SIM card.

STOP 

5. Verify SIM Card Operation

A. Contact the Trimble store through your Product Link Administrator.

B. Verify that the device subscription is in the Trimble Store. 

The SIM card:
* Is activated
* Approved on the network
* Roaming is enabled 

OK - SIM card is OK.

Go to Step 6.

Not OK - SIM card is not OK.

Repair:

Contact your Product Link Administrator.

STOP 

6. Verify Good Machine Location

A. Position the machine in an area of known good cellular communication.

B. Attempt machine communication. 

The machine can communicate 

OK - Communication OK.

STOP

Not OK - Communication not OK.

Go to Step 7. 

7. Verify Antenna Operation

A. Replace the antenna with a known good antenna.

B. Attempt machine communication. 

The machine can communicate 

OK - Communication OK.

STOP

Not OK - Communication not OK.

Repair:

A. Replace the faulty antenna.

B. Attempt communication.
* If communication good - STOP
* If communication not good - Contact your TC.

STOP 
(1) Low power is an expected function
