Introduction

This Special Instruction provides the disassembly and assembly procedure for the 3N-8891 Sea Water Heat Exchanger Gp .

Disassembly Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove rod assembly (1) .

  1. Remove bolts (2), the washers, bonnet (3), O-ring seal (4), and shims (5) from the shell assembly.

  1. Remove bolts (6), the washers, flanges (7), and gaskets (8) from bonnet (9).

  1. Remove rod assembly (10) .

  1. Use a suitable lifting device to remove core assembly (13) from the shell assembly. The weight of core assembly (13) is approximately 46 kg (101 lb). The weight of the shell assembly is approximately 48 kg (106 lb). Remove bolts (11), the washers, bonnet (9), gasket (12), core assembly (13), and gasket (14) from the shell assembly.

  1. Remove spring pin (15) .

  1. Install spring pin (15).

  1. Use a suitable lifting device to install core assembly (13) into the shell assembly. The weight of core assembly (13) is approximately 46 kg (101 lb). The weight of the shell assembly is approximately 48 kg (106 lb). Install gasket (14), core assembly (13), gasket (12), bonnet (9), the washers, and bolts (11). Tighten bolts (11) to a torque of 47 to 57 N·m (35 to 42 lb ft).

  1. Install plug assembly (10). Tighten plug assembly (10) to a torque of 67 to 77 N·m (49 to 57 lb ft).

  1. Install gaskets (8), flanges (7), the washers, and bolts (6) to bonnet (9). Tighten bolts (6) to a torque of 47 to 57 N·m (35 to 42 lb ft).

  1. Install shims (5), O-ring seal (4), bonnet (3), the washers, and bolts (2).

  1. Use 3 to 4 shims (5) to attain Dimension (X). Dimension (X) is 1.52 + 0.10 -0.46 mm (0.060 +0.004 -.018 inch).

  1. Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 47 to 57 N·m (35 to 42 lb ft).

  1. Install rod assembly (1). Tighten rod assembly (1) to a torque of 67 to 77 N·m (49 to 57 lb ft)
